What Kind Of Room Will I Get?

We make every effort to assign the rooms according to roommate compatibility, isolation and fall prevention requirements, and any personal preferences. If you are unhappy with your room or roommate upon admission, please notify Admissions ASAP. We will do our best to accommodate your needs based on bed availability.

Do I Need To Sign Any Paperwork After I Admit? How Does My Insurance Cover?

Yes, there are two departments that require your immediate attention. First, please refer to your designated charge nurse upon admission. Secondly, you will have a 72-hour window to complete your admissions policies and procedures packet with the Admission Department. If you are unable to sign within that period, please call to set up an appointment at (619) 470-6700 x 116.

What If I Would Like To Change/Choose My Assigned Primary Physician? When Should I Expect A Visit From My Doctor?

You have been assigned upon admission an In-House Primary Physician. Should you choose to change providers, please contact Amanda Felix in Admissions for a list of In-House Physicians. A standard visit from your doctor should be within 72 hours of admission. However please notify your charge nurse if you would like to see him or her sooner or more frequently.

Do We Bring Our Own Medications? When Will I Get My Medication After Admission?

You do not need to bring in your own medications. We order it from the discharge orders provided to us from the acute hospital. Please refer to your designated charge nurse for an estimated time of arrival. If you are in immediate need of a medication, please call your charge nurse immediately.

If I Would Like To Go Out Of The Facility And Spend Time With My Family, What Do I Need To Do?

While your recovery here at Paradise is the most important thing to keep in mind as you make this transition home, we understand there are family events, tasks, and upkeep at home to tend to. You may request a “out on pass” from your attending physician for a maximum of 4 hours on any given day. Please refer to your designated charge nurse for the request.

When Will Physical Therapy See Me?

While we make every effort to see you the same day as admission, this will be contingent upon the time of your arrival. For example, if you arrive at 7:00 pm on a Saturday, we will not be able to evaluate you till Monday morning. We do therapy 6 days a week, up to 75 minutes of each discipline. If you arrive at 1:00 pm on a Tuesday, please contact the rehab director Ricardo at ext. 112 to schedule your therapy the same day.

What Time Can My Family Visit? Can They Stay Over With Me? How Do They Contact Me?

We love families/ children and when they visit! They are welcome to visit any time of day and night. We do lock the front doors at 8:00 pm, guests can use the phone outside the door to call the nursing station to let you in. Guests are allowed to stay overnight with you on a case by case basis. Please call Amanda Felix at (619) 770-7200 for final approval. You may contact your loved one at any time of day or night at the main number (619) 470-6700.

I Have A Lot Of Family, Where Can We Visit?

We have several areas you can meet, please call the activities director at ext. 137 to coordinate a special event or simply help with finding a place to be comfortable.

Will I Have Access To Wi-Fi Or A Computer?

Yes! Please contact activities for an iPad rental or computer access at ext. 137.

What Clothing Should I Bring? Any Other Necessities I Will Need?

We recommend comfortable clothing such as sweatpants or joggers, shirts, tennis shoes and night wear. We would like to refrain from using hospital gowns. We provide all hygienic products, however if there are any special items your loved one would like to use, please bring it. This also pertains to special requests such as glasses and dentures, and perhaps a sudoku game!

How do you protect patients, staff, and visitors from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases?

Our team is highly trained and experienced in caring for high-acuity patients and infectious diseases like COVID-19. Our dedicated infection prevention nurse helps ensure we follow current infection prevention guidelines and best practices. This includes educating all staff about the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, and gowns and when to use COVID-19 protocols required by local department of public health and/or the CDC.
